101 Companies most talked about in US podcasts

The podcast industry is evolving fast. In the US, more than 139 million Americans listen to podcasts every month, representing an increase of 30% in just the past three years. As numbers keep rising, the industry is expanding on several fronts.

To showcase All Ears’ unique capabilities we automatically analyzed millions of podcasts during the period between October 16th and November 15th, 2021 – and compiled a list of the Top 101 companies most talked about in US podcasts.

1. Facebook (Meta)
Mentions: 7149

A majority of the recent publicity has been due to the company’s rebranding from Facebook to Meta. The launch, a part of the broader VR-concept Metaverse, has been discussed in various podcasts during the month. However, most mentions come from the Daily Tech News Show, where Meta has been mentioned 224 times, which is on average more than seven times a day.

2. Twitter
Mentions: 5591

The majority of mentions comes from the crypto-financial podcast Bankless with 111 mentions, and sports podcast The Herd with Colin Cowherd which mentioned Twitter 110 times during the month.

Moreover, we see Twitter discussed in a wide variety of topics, including politics, music, and technology.

3. Google
Mentions: 5230

Google has been mentioned in podcasts on average 174 times per day during the measure period. Most mentions come from The Tech Guy, which mentioned Google more than 160 times across nine different episodes.

Many podcast mentions are also related to Google's new launches and technological updates, such as the new Google Pixel 6 released on October 25th, 2021.

4. YouTube
Mentions: 4288

Again, we see The Herd with Colin Cowherd generating many podcast mentions. YouTube was discussed a total of 81 times on Cowherd's podcast, which is on average three times a day. The most popular topic has been technology, while music and audio only represent 5% of all mentions.

5. Amazon
Mentions: 3406

As the world’s largest digital retailer, Amazon is always highly present in the media. However, during All Ears analysis period, Amazon was mentioned 3406 times, which represents a decrease of 12 % from the same period last year.

6. Apple
Mentions: 3000

Apple has been mentioned precisely 3000 times during the measure period, and scores comparatively well on sentiment, with 14% negative and 39% positive mentions.

7. Tesla
Mentions: 2446

Elon Musk's companies appear two times on this list; Tesla as the 7th most talked about in podcasts, and Space X as number 52.

Although there is a big difference in the number of mentions (2446 and 140), Tesla and SpaceX perform equally well on other key metrics such as sentiment.

8. Netflix
Mentions: 2092

Netflix has had a peak in media presence, and the majority of mentions are related to the show Squid Game's success. The South Korean sensation has actually been mentioned 1000 more than Netflix itself during this period.

9. Spotify
Mentions: 1471

Spotify is growing fast in the podcast space. Today it is the second most popular source for podcasts globally, and since 2019 they have nearly doubled their podcast audience. Spotify also scores highest on sentiment out of all the top 10 companies.

Considering Spotify’s scale and number of mentions, 36% positive and 13% negative is a strong result.

10. Microsoft
Mentions: 1438

On average Microsoft has been mentioned almost 50 times a day, mostly in topics related to technology, business and finance.
